Godly%20Play.jpgMy mother says I laugh a lot for someone in my circumstances, whatever that means. You'll hear more about my circumstances as you read the various areas of this site.

I grew up in Columbus, Ohio. I studied biology,  anthropology, and other interesting stuff  at the University of Cincinnati before moving to Baltimore in 1986.

I enjoy the company of children, but I also like adults. I have spent seventeen years working as a Christian educator, directing education programs for all ages at several Episcopal parishes in Baltimore, Maryland. I serve as a special events consultant and a consultant in Christian Education (I helped establish more than two dozen Godly Play programs in churches in Maryland.) I have been a Rite 13 leader for the Journey to Adulthood Program for Youth ages 11‑17.  I have led Christian formation seminars for parents and educators in a variety of denominations and settings ‑ from national conferences and retreats, to both large and small congregations across the country.

In addition to developing promotional and training materials for the Godly Play method, I continue my hands‑on experience with the program in my position as Director of Youth and Children's Ministries at Church of the Holy Comforter in Lutherville, Maryland -- and as chaplain of the day school at Trinity Church in Towson. I was one of the first certified trainers working with Jerome Berryman’s Center for the Theology of Childhood.

My interest in church growth and congregational development led me to Godly Play and The Journey to Adulthood when it became evident that congregations using those programs were experiencing record growth in Sunday School registration and attendance. Despite all their shortcomings, I still think religious institutions have a lot to offer modern people, so I want them to grow!

My hobbies include cooking and photography.  I have two grown children, Alice and JP. I  live with my husband John McIntyre, a journalist.
