Taking Stock
Since there are only 11 weeks until the first day of class, I need to work on at least two fronts this week. I will develop interest in the program by telling stories to small groups in our congregation. And I will begin to plan the schedule of lessons based on stories for which I can find or make the materials on short notice.
Developing Interest: We have a weeknight service called Picnic and Prayer. About a dozen of us gather for supper and an outdoor Eucharist. I will present the Laborers in the Vineyard parable Godly Play style at the Gospel. This is a lesson a colleague and I have been testing for about 9 years. At least a few people who have never seen Godly Play before will get a taste of how moving it can be. In addition, I will ask the Rector if there is time for me to tell a Godly Play story at the Vestry meeting this Tuesday evening. If this is too short notice, I will ask to be put on the agenda next month. Who knows – someone who hears one of these presentations may feel moved enough by the presentation and wondering to want teach in the fall. It has happened before.
Schedule of Lessons: Since the children at CHC have had little exposure to the routine of Godly Play – the way it follows the pattern of Christian worship, I will plan orientation lessons for each group of children.
